Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
Is Noble USDC a native version of USDC?
Yes, Noble USDC is native to the Noble blockchain, which is part of the broader Cosmos/Interchain ecosystem. This provides a seamless and secure integration for users, with no need for custodial bridging from other networks. Native USDC minting and redemption is done exclusively via Noble.
What fees do I have to pay?
Gas fees in Cosmos are generally very low. On average, internal Noble chain transfers cost approx. 1 cent. There are no fees for IBC transfers to and from Noble. Importantly, fees are paid in USDC - there is no "gas token" requirement as on other blockchains, unlocking a huge UX advantage.
Can Noble USDC be swapped across blockchains?
Yes, transfers between IBC-enabled blockchains work seamlessly. For other blockchain networks, like Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base & Avalanche, Noble USDC can be easily transferred non-custodially via Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP). This allows users to natively mint USDC across any CCTP-compatible blockchain.
If I transfer Noble USDC via IBC, do I hold IBC-transferred USDC?
Yes, when USDC is transferred from Noble to another appchain via IBC, it becomes IBC-transferred USDC on that appchain. Noble uses packet-forwarding technology to ensure a consistent route for USDC among different IBC paths to/from Noble.
How does the Cosmos ecosystem benefit from Noble USDC?
Noble USDC offers a fully reserved, dollar-backed stablecoin within the Cosmos ecosystem. Its integration allows for easy and secure transfers between appchains and removes the need for custodial bridging from other ecosystems, enhancing the utility and efficiency of transactions within the interchain.
What is the difference between bridged USDC and native USDC?
Bridged USDC requires an additional trust assumption related to the custody by a third party validator set. Native USDC eliminates that additional custodial trust assumption, provides direct mint and redemption functionality via Noble and seamlessly integrates IBC.
